Why is Cable Protection Important?
Cable protection is important in supporting infrastructure applications for key utilities. A sustainable cable protection system is fundamental in protecting against four major operational demands:
Mechanical
Underground cable ducting is often subject to pulling, pushing, torsion, vandalism, rodent attack and general wear and tear. If left unprotected cables will inevitably be damaged.
Thermal
A cable management system is important to protect cable routes against high temperatures, sparks, and radiation to ensure they continue to operate properly.
Chemical
If cables are left unprotected in harsh environments, chemicals can cause them to erode and malfunction, resulting in installation and process failure. Therefore, cables that are in contact with chemicals should be protected with a cable protection system that is chemical resistant.
UV / Sunlight
Cables that are used outside are vulnerable to UV degradation. Therefore, a cable protection system is needed consisting of flexible conduit and that is UV resistant.
Why Choose CABLEprotect?
Cubis’ CABLEprotect range has been designed to provide greater sustainable benefits to customers whilst providing a modern cable protection solution that is easy to install, easier cable pulling and to combine multiple ducts into one unit, this in turn reduces the need for larger and deeper excavations. The product ranges are, used within the rail, telecoms, highways, water, energy, ports, refineries, and data centre industries globally.

PROtrough used in local lineside application project in Northern Ireland
Although operating worldwide, the current railway renewals taking place across Northern Ireland have afforded Cubis the opportunity to work on several local projects, one of which is located less than two miles from their Head Offices and manufacturing site in Lurgan, Northern Ireland.
The railway renewals in Lurgan had projected a construction period of eight months, between 4th January 2022 and 1st August 2022.

Dark Arches - Northern Ireland’s Railway Renewals
Currently undergoing a huge infrastructure upgrade, substantial investment has been made as Northern Irish Railways complete major track renewals across the island.
Cubis Systems, the global leaders of the design and manufacture of network access products, has had the opportunity to work alongside the client, offering both industry knowledge and innovative products to provide the best possible solutions.

MULTIduct™ Delivers Cable Protection Solution for the Raide-Joker Light Rail Project
Cubis Systems along with CRH sister company Rudus in Finland recently supplied its STAKKAbox™ network access chambers and MULTIduct™ cable protection systems to the new 25km Raide-Joker Light Rail project. The new track from Itäkeskus in Helsinki and Keilaniemi in Espoo has approximately 16km located in Helsinki and 9km in Espoo and is being built to replace the trunk bus line 550 which is the busiest bus line in the region having reached its maximum capacity and with no room for growing passengers numbers.

MULTIduct™ Used in Highway Construction
The Polish state authority for National Roads and Highways, (GDDKiA.SA) and contractors Astaldi S.A. worked on the new S7 Expressway, a key highway link that connects to the A-4, a 672-mile motorway that runs through the south of Poland, with European links to Slovakia and Hungary.
The contractor needed an underground cable protection system that could safely distribute both high and low voltage cables to and from a sub power station within a small, shallow excavation, to reduce the time of installation and need for removal of as dug spoil.
