Cable protection system MULTIduct™ provides a safe and speedy install for new rail infrastructure network

Cubis have been working with NI Railways and their lead contractors on their ongoing upgrade project for rail infrastructure across Northern Ireland. Cubis recently supplied it’s MULTIduct™ cable protection system and STAKKAbox™ Fortress network access chamber products on the Lisburn line track renewal, where it was used as part of a buried cable route installation for both power and signalling running alongside the track.

Cubis’ buried cable route system has been designed to offer a modern, lightweight, structural alternative to traditional methods of burying trackside cabling for telecoms, signalling and power. MULTIduct™ provides enhanced security due to the cabling being buried with access only available within the network access chamber. The easy to handle 1m long 4, 6 or 9 way ducting units weigh under 20kg and provide a 25% increase in cable capacity compared to traditional cable ducts. The unique ‘one click’ push fit connection makes the MULTIduct™ units fast and easy to install making them ideal for working at night with limited track possession time.

MULTIduct™ also provides the added benefit of having high crush strength properties enabling a much shallower burial depth with the re-use of existing materials during installation reducing the removal of on-site dug material saving time and cost for the contractor.
