STAKKAbox™ ULTIMA Connect - Commonwealth Building Development

The Cubis STAKKAbox™ access chamber system continues to break ground in Australia. The modular twin-walled design offers product versatility and infrastructure capabilities not achievable with traditional chamber options available on the market.

The new Commonwealth Building Development in conjunction with the Canberra Communications Upgrade, ACT, saw the introduction of the Cubis’ STAKKAbox™ ULTIMA Connect chamber system. As part of the greater network upgrade project occurring across the Territory, installation of the chamber served as a trial for both Greenfield and Brownfield applications in meeting new infrastructure requirements.

Project Challenges

  • Closely located to boundary edge
  • Ability to adapt to ongoing infrastructure developments
  • Restricted installation time frame

Chamber safety, security and cost-efficiency were a major priority. The chamber solution needed to provide ease of Brownfield installation without the aid of heavy-lifting machinery.

Traditional chamber options, such as pre-cast chambers, could not meet project weight or flexibility requirements when accommodating existing Brownfield services, whilst pouring in-situ would have resulted in increased traffic management, plant and specialised labour expenses.

Project Outcomes

Cubis’ project management and in-house engineering team worked closely with both the lead authority and contractor offering a customised STAKKAbox™ network access systems solution.

Rapid installation of the ULTIMA Connect™ was conducted within a number of hours, catering for the existing Brownfield services and restricted site area. Basic hand-powered tools were utilised onsite to make conduit entries and adapt connecting pieces as needed.

The innovative STAKKAbox™ chamber system offered extensive cost savings to the client including flat-packed freighting capabilities, reduced traffic management and no heavy-lifting machinery or skilled labour. Combining ULTIMA Connect’s Class D load rating with the high security capabilities of a Cubis 911 locking cover assembly, enabled the highest standard of underground protection and long-term chamber integrity to be provided.

For the Authority, the project’s success was marked by the effective and efficient installation of a Class D chamber system for Brownfield remediation works overcoming challenges otherwise hindered by traditional approaches.
