STAKKAbox™ ULTIMA Connect supports Melbourne Residential Development

The Melbourne residential development site, soon to accommodate 10 new houses and 63 apartments, required a Class B communications chamber with on-site flexibility during installation. The access chamber needed to cater for tough bedrock, unknown burial depths and multiple pre-existing conduits running across the site.

Cubis Systems were highly recommended to the contractor due to the nature of the works and the innovative range of products on offer, in particular, the application possibilities of the STAKKAbox™ access chamber range.

After careful analysis of the projects needs it was determined a traditional concrete insitu chamber could not fulfill all the site requirements or provide corresponding benefits. The Cubis Systems’ ULTIMA Connect access chamber system was specified for the building of the chambers with internal dimensions of 1900mm (long) by 1200mm (wide) and 1050mm (deep), along with a Cubis AX-S™ 200mm thick cover slab using 900mm x 900mm access covers.

This innovative modular chamber enabled easy duct entry modification insitu to accommodate the multiple conduits entering from both the north and existing south wall to service an above ground kiosk cabinet. The chamber accommodated a total of 28 x 63 communication conduits on both the north and south walls of the chambers. 

With the burial depth unknown and issues surrounding a large layer of bedrock, the STAKKAbox™ access chamber range provided incomparable benefits where cold excavation could progress to a point where simple backfill accommodated the ULTIMA Connect chamber and cover.

Along with the fast assembly around pre-existing structures and uneven surfaces, the ULTIMA Connect was chosen over a traditional concrete chamber for its capability to handle conduit entry changes and installation insitu on site. The light weight modular structure of the ULTIMA Connect eliminated the need for heavy lifting machinery and provided the ability for rapid installation with minimal labor requirements working in with site constraints including resource and weather impacts.
